Farewell Florrie

Florence Caroline Bean joined Tomaree Toastmasters in 2003 at 79 years of age and  died in Newcastle Mater Hospital on Tuesday 22 June 2004, aged 80.  The Club celebrated her 80th birthday last December.  On Thursday, 25 June 2004 the Tilligerry Uniting Church at Tanilba Bay was filled to overflowing with standing room only as the community came to celebrate Florrie's life.

Florrie was born in Belfast on 14 December 1923 and immigrated to Australia with her husband, Stan and her 3 children.  As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother she was loved and adored;  as a member of her church, her community and the many organisations to which she belonged she was a dedicated participant and popular entity.

As a member of Tomaree Toastmasters, a small club, Florrie always had her assignments prepared, was always ready with a joke, or a story, gave uplifting talks about her childhood and family in Ireland and was a valued contributor every meeting.  A memorable assignment was her belief in and memories of Christmas.  Florrie will be sadly missed by the members of Tomaree Toastmasters Club - her happy, radiant smile and Irish brogue although absent, will be remembered:

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face

The rain fall soft upon your fields

Until we meet again

May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

Road to Eternity

Life is but a stopping place

A pause in what's to be 

A resting place along the road 

To sweet eternity

We all have different journeys

Different paths along the way 

We are all meant to learn some things 

But never meant to stay....

Our destination is a place 

Far greater than we know

For some the journey's quicker

For some the journey's slow

But when the journey finally ends

We'll claim a great reward

And find an everlasting peace

Together with the Lord
